Wani 25 years of age living in Bidibidi settlement in Yumbe district with a family size of 5 and having 2 children where the oldest is 4 years fled to Uganda in 2016 when the crisis in South Sudan escalated to other parts of the Country. Wani whose state is Bentiu said that if he had fled he would have died. Wani who was a student by then had to dropped out of school due to the insurgency and found himself in the settlement merely without the basic necessities of life. Having lost his parents and properties during the period when the country was under political crisis, life too become impossible said by Wani.
But Wani said that although he had lost hope but he kept on dreaming that one day he will be great. He said that when ‘Caritas put advert for vocational skills training in 2020 I applied with hope that my dream is coming to light unfortunately due to Corona virus I was not taken to school and life become more frustrating because my dreams seems to be dying.’ said by Wani
The most significant change came when Caritas gave them kind support of Ugx. 3,100,000/= for income generating activity as a group, he started a small shop with that money and now he is in position to buy food items and other basic necessities of life at his home and Life has improved as compared to when we just arrived in Uganda although the money has supported me so much said Wani. Wani seems to be smiling!
