The project “Sustainable Livelihoods for Resilience and protection in Refugee Response”
• ” In Yumbe District, has component of peace building apart from Livelihood & Complaint/Accountability. Peace building requires dissemination of activities such as; Community awareness, dialogue, Radio Spot Messages, Fact Finding of conflicts to conduct-mediations for reconciliation, which are all intended for peaceful co-existence.
• Caritas Arua and Uganda from inception in 2017, worked in partnership to generously serve the refugees in Bidibidi to improve their livelihoods for 4 years. Since the project cycle is coming to a conclusion, it requires comprehensive reporting based on success achieved as well as challenges encountered.
The meeting was conducted from 30th November to 1st December 2021 in Village 9, Zone 2 for the peace committees to present successes & sort falls for peace building program throughout the period of implementation as below;
• According to chairperson peace committee Village-9, lots of conflicts were prone in 2016 when refugees settled at Zone-2, e.g., Domestic violence among refugees, firewood/grass/building-poles/land with host community, who did not understand refugees at all. • Chairperson peace committee V-9 (Malish Isaac) said, (success was achieved by inception of Caritas peace building & enjoyed to date in; good relationship with host-community who now co-exist with refugees & allow refugees to harvest-firewood, grass, water in scarcity, building-poles, farming land, trade, bartering in food items with refugees, funeral-rites celebration with refugees and joint-sporting among youth.
• While a member (Joyce Gonja) said; she experienced humble relationship with her host community neighbours whose children visit her home & stay whole day before going to their homes at evening, which was not the case before.
